Mother of All Fitness Challenges Gets Moms Moving
| |
SARASOTA, FLA. January 11, 2010 — For the second year in a row, Baby Boot Camp is challenging moms to get in the best shape of their lives. The three-month Mother Love Fitness Challenge focuses on strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance as part of a nationwide competition that includes prize packages awarded to America's fittest moms.
Delivered by nationally certified fitness professionals, Baby Boot Camp stroller fitness classes consist of exercises geared to help moms get fit. To jump start moms' fitness goals, Baby Boot Camp has launched the second annual Mother Love Fitness Challenge, Feb. 1 to May 1, 2010. The Challenge focuses on the following fitness goals each month:
February: Strength — The goal this month is to increase strength and physical confidence. Classes will incorporate three specific exercises that students will complete: push-ups, plank and jump squats. March: Stretch — The goal is to increase flexibility in a way that is safe and effective for prenatal and postpartum moms. April: Cardio — Baby Boot Camp classes will be geared toward increasing cardiovascular endurance. Classes will emphasize power walking, jogging and interval drills. Both mileage and time trials will be recorded.
Moms receive fitness assessments, which teams submit as part of the nationwide competition. During last year's Challenge, Team Baby Boot Camp Tucson lost a combined 55.1 pounds and 36.25 inches, in addition to logging 340 miles.
"Our strength numbers more than doubled," says Baby Boot Camp Tucson owner Alysa Bajenaru. "The Mother Love Fitness Challenge is a great way to motivate and challenged moms in a new way. Plus, they loved the great prizes."
This year's prize packs, valued at more than $80 each, will include Kelty diaper totes.
About Baby Boot Camp Baby Boot Camp was created in San Francisco in 2001 by fitness expert Kristen Horler. After the birth of her first child, Horler searched the San Francisco Bay Area for a postnatal fitness class. After extensive research, she was unable to find a challenging workout that didn't require hiring a personal trainer and a babysitter or purchasing a gym membership. Utilizing her experience as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, triathlete and mother, she developed the Baby Boot Camp program to balance the fitness needs of new moms with their desire to spend time with their baby. All Baby Boot Camp classes follow the guidelines set by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Council on Exercise.
