What is satiety and why is it important?

Satiety (rhymes with society) is being full to the point of satisfaction—a feeling hard to come by if you’re trying to eat right but don’t have a lot of time.

Dietitians recommend that the average woman eat 1800 calories a day and choose snacks that are in the 100-calorie range. The key to following their advice and not feeling deprived is eating high satiety snacks – snacks that make calories go the distance for you. Understanding satiety will help you choose foods that keep you healthy and satisfied.

Dietitians also know that foods high in fiber and protein help you eat fewer calories and feel full longer. That’s because they slow digestion and prolong the release of a hormone that triggers the “I’m full” feeling in your brain. So, to get the most out of your snacks, look for foods that are relatively low in calories and high in fiber and protein.

Satiety Tips:

  • Drink a full glass of water before you sit down to eat.
  • Set your fork down as you enjoy each bite of food.
  • Before taking a second serving, drink another full glass of water.
  • Listen to your body.

this book is straight to the point, a great read, full of scientifically valid useful information. If you want a lose weight quick diet program this book isn’t for you, but if you want to understand how your body works, how fat is burned , how to find out how many calories your body needs and how to write a good nutrition program specifically tailored for you or your clients this is the book for you. This book doesn’t teach you a new fad diet it helps you understand nutrition, something most of us should have learned in second grade science class.

Well, I know that there are good foods out there that help lose weight more easily. Try grapefruit, they are excellent in helping every aspect of your body. So, you should eat about 4-6 small meals per day, about a small meal every 2-3 hours. It keeps your metabolism working all throughout the day, rather than 3 times per day. When eating 3 times per day, your body stores some of the food as fat, causing weight gain because your body does not know when its next meal is coming, so that’s its natural bodily instinct.

Hello. Just some feedback. By coincidence I seem to have tried a very similar approach as you and it’s working.I have an apple and an orange juice for breakfast, I have a (big) sandwich + salad for lunch. Almost every night I have a 600 – 700 calorie pre packaged meal for dinner. They’re not very processed and there’s a lot of variety and yes, some even have raw ingredients. Between meals I mostly eat fruit or soup. Most days I guess I’m between 1500 and 2000 Calories. Some days I binge (fried food, chips, chocolate bar). I hardly exercise except 10 minutes bike to/from work.I’ve lost 15lb in 3 months. Never needing to think about cooking does make it much easier. If I cook myself it’s too easy to prepare and then eat more than I need. Not having a kitchen full of ingredients or breakfast cereal makes it less likely that I snack on them. This approach has given me more success than my previous attempts that were based on increasing regular exercise (which is also important but not practical for me right now). I’ve kind of stabilized and I have no intention of changing my diet back again. Yes being on permanent “restriction” is annoying, and never cooking is pathetic, but so is heart disease and a beer gut.
