Franchise Owner Spotlight: Amanda Foose
"I first started Baby Boot Camp as an attendee. I had an 8 week old baby girl and desperately needed to lose weight and regain my health. I loved Baby Boot Camp so much that I decided to become an instructor. I was not athletic growing up, so this was a huge step for me. I wanted to inspire other women just as I had been inspired.
"After teaching for several years, I decided that I wanted more, so I purchased a Baby Boot Camp franchise. My goal was to help as many women as possible through their journey as new mothers. Shortly after purchasing the franchise, I hurt myself. We are not talking a sprained ankle -- I REALLY hurt myself. The doctor found a double fracture in my pelvis and a bone cyst that had probably been there for a while just waiting to cause trouble. The injury broke my heart. I loved my active lifestyle. I loved teaching and inspiring my clients. I decided that I wasn’t going to let my limitations get me down. Instead I would use my challenges to continue to inspire others. I taught class for 9 long months on crutches as my hip healed. My clients stuck with me – I even signed new members. If they just came to class, they saw I was still every bit as good of an instructor as I was on two feet. I even heard that classes were harder when I couldn’t walk. Go figure!
"What my clients didn’t know is that they were inspiring me to keep going. It would have been so easy to give up, but they needed me and what our program offered. After the 9 long months on crutches, I was allowed to walk again. This was amazing, but it didn’t last long. My hip was too weak to sustain daily activity anymore and would need surgery. I had a Total Hip Replacement at 31.
"My Baby Boot Camp clients kept me sane while I healed. They encouraged me daily. I even finished out our annual Mother Love (MOLO) Fitness Challenge while using a walker. My clients wouldn’t give up on me, so I wouldn’t give up on them. The two months I took off from teaching post-op was the hardest time of my life. I yearned to be my “old self” again. I was back to teaching as soon as I was allowed to drive and could walk enough to keep up with class.
"I would like to say that my story ended there – that the surgery made me good as new. The truth is, I struggle daily with pain and discomfort. There have been so many days over the last two years that I could have just taken the easy road and given up on what was important to me. I could have stopped working out and stopped trying. However, every time those thoughts came in my head, I remembered why I started this journey in the first place. I love helping other women become better people. I love encouraging our children that you can be healthy and active no matter what life throws at you. I mean, look at me. If my health allows me to encourage more women to stay healthy and positive and overcome health problems, then in a way I am glad I was given this opportunity. I can no longer exercise with my group, but I can still offer a fun and challenging workout class. I stay strong by swimming with the masters swim team. What my clients don’t know is that I leave class every day thankful that I was given the opportunity to encourage them, and they encourage me even more."
